Sea sponges are hand-picked by expert divers in the Mediterranean. When they are cut, they are not completely uprooted, a part of the sponge remains on the seabed and as a result, a new sponge will grow in its place.

Each Sea Sponge is unique. Sea sponges of Mediterranean origin are more resistant than those of the Caribbean. The temperatures of the waters where they originate impact the sponges density and duration of life.

Sea Sponges are an aquatic living organism however without a brain or central nervous system.

Natural Sea Sponges are used in the same way as any other synthetic sponges, however they are much more sustainable due to the longevity of usage.

Rub your soap or cleanser on the sea sponge. Add some water to create a lather and massage your body (or face) with smooth circular motions. At the end of your shower, rinse your sponge well, and gently remove the excess water.

To maintain hygiene and prolong the life of the sponge, you can cleanse the sponge in a bowl of water with one teaspoon of vinegar, then drain and leave the sponge to dry on a clean surface. 

Natural sea sponges last longer than synthetic sponges as they are more resistant to abrasion by nature.

The most durable sponge is the Mediterranean Honeycomb sea sponge, which is considered the highest quality sea sponge. With proper maintenance, a Honeycomb Sponge may exceed two years of usage.

It is recommended to regularly sanitize the sponge, usually every 2 to 3 weeks. Recommended process is as follows:

Ajean Sea Sponges have been hand-picked and packaged from our sourced suppliers in the Aegean Sea, mainly Greece, Turkey & Tunisia.

The Sea Sponges are then shipped raw to Australia (where our warehouse is located) for cleaning.

Sea Sponges arrive to our warehouse raw, where we then hand-cut the sponges into various sizes.

Each batch then goes through a cleaning process where we remove dirt & ocean bacteria through water extraction.

The sponges are then sun-dried and packaged sustainably for our customers.
